Your OB/GYN may refer you on to a Fertility specialist. If this is the case, it’s not goodbye to your OB/GYN forever. It is just for a short period whilst you are busy figuring things out with your Fertility Specialist. We recommend that you ask your Fertility doctor about CarrierScreen This screening will be able to tell you if you are a carrier for a genetic disorder, which you have a chance of passing on to your children. Once your Fertility Specialist has worked their magic and your Embryos are safely stored at your Fertility Clinic prior to Embryo transfer, we recommend Preimplantation Genetic Testing – Aneuploidies (PGT-A) which is offered as a complement to a patient’s In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment, to improve pregnancy success rates and reduce miscarriages. PGT-A is testing of early stage embryos for chromosomal abnormalities. It’s exciting but it can leave you feeling distressed and nervous about what lies ahead.
The consistent connection with your fertility team would have been very reassuring, but understand that there will come a time when you will have to leave your Fertility Team and go back to the safe hands of your OB/GYN.
When a patient conceives through Assisted Reproductive Technology (like, IVF) early diagnosis, appropriate assessment and management of the pregnancy is imperative. However, as your pregnancy advances, frequent monitoring visits will no longer be needed. See this as being positive! It means your pregnancy is proceeding as it should be progressing. Typically, most transitions to your chosen OB/GYN takes place around 7-12 weeks gestation.
It is a good idea to set up your first OB/GYN appointment once you are pregnant and a heartbeat has been detected. Before going to your OB/GYN, make sure you obtain a copy of all your medical records and laboratory results. If and when you fall pregnant, it is advisable to see a Fetal Specialist at 12 weeks.
