ANTENATAL.

It is expected to feel anxious during a pregnancy after a successful round of assisted fertility or after miscarriages and baby loss. As normal as it is, it is not something you need to go through alone, nor something that should be defined as “normal” itself, as it implies you should be able to work through it without any assistance or encouragement. The feelings can be very overwhelming to both you and your partner. House of Fertility want to provide you with the safety of knowing you are not alone, and understand that sometimes we all need a little help. Women with a successful pregnancy after assisted fertility or loss are at a higher risk of developing Antenatal and Postnatal Depression. With the assistance of our listed professionals we will help guide you into a much happier and peaceful space during and after pregnancy.

PSYCHOLOGY.

Conception can be a lengthy experience that requires medical intervention. Although numbers vary from country to country, it’s safe to say that roughly one in six couples will have difficulty achieving a pregnancy. This can be a primary (trying for your first) or secondary (trying for your second or subsequent) infertility. We know that anxieties can skyrocket during this time – and understandably. There are many factors out of your control, many uncertainties. And then it’s the waiting game. It’s tough going, but you don’t have to bear it alone. Psychologists are here to support you and help you prepare for parenthood, no matter what stage you are at in your conception journey. Whether you are in a heterosexual or same sex relationship, or not partnered, they will welcome working with you during this time.

PERINATAL COUNSELLORS.

Perinatal counselling is the instruction of pregnant women and their partners about the choices they may need to make during pregnancy, esp. about prenatal nutrition, folic acid supplementation, exercise, screening, methods of childbirth, and how these choices may affect the outcome of the pregnancy. The perinatal period is a period of significant adjustment, for the mother and child, and other family members. There are major physical changes, emotional changes, and often lifestyle changes associated with this stage of life. Women may experience miscarriage during pregnancy, and the sense of loss associated with this can be significant. During this potentially vulnerable time, counselling sessions provided by perinatal counselling can be hugely beneficial.

WHAT IS A PERINATAL SOCIAL WORKER.

Perinatal Social Workers help individuals, families, and communities respond to psychosocial issues that emerge during the period from pre-pregnancy through an infant’s first year of life The role of a perinatal social worker is to help women and their families express and process their emotions, navigate the health system, advocate for themselves and their baby, make decisions and plans and access community support and financial assistance. The goal of perinatal social work is to ascertain that every baby and every family is supported with competent, compassionate care.

PERINATAL DOULA.

A doula is a person who is primarily focused on the delivery of a baby and offers emotional support and practical guidance around labour and childbirth. Most doula-client relationships begin a few months before the baby is due. Before the labor, the doula and the family can develop a relationship where the mother and her partner feel free to ask questions and express fears and concerns, and where the mother can take an active role in creating a birth plan. Continuity of support by the same person is thought to be an important aspect of the relationship between doula and mother. Doulas may be found in hospital, community-based programs as well as in private practice.

MIDWIFE.

Midwifery encompasses care of women during pregnancy, labour, and the postpartum period, as well as care of the newborn. It includes measures aimed at preventing health problems in pregnancy, the detection of abnormal conditions, the procurement of medical assistance when necessary, and the execution of emergency measures in the absence of medical help. Midwives deliver babies and provide antenatal and postnatal advice, care and support to women, their babies, their partners and families. Midwives need the ability to deal with emotionally charged situations as part of their everyday work.

A maternity coach is involved in the preparation, education and planning aspects of pregnancy, and the post birth period, including the transition into parenthood. A maternity coach is also able to organise and make referrals as and when needed as well as inform and provide information on anything required. maternity coaching sessions are in addition to birth preparation classes to help prepare you in other ways for the total life change that awaits. Antenatal classes are generally more focused on the actual birth.

ANTENATAL HYPONOTHERAPY.

Hypnosis for Pregnancy and Childbirth. Antenatal hypnotherapy or ‘hypno-birthing’, gives you control over your pregnancy and birthing experience. Many of the anxieties you may have are replaced by a sense of calm anticipation, deeply instilled through the hypnotic state. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis – an altered state of consciousness – to help mums-to-be relax. By working with your subconscious mind, it helps you break habits or stop unwanted physical responses. It also feels relaxing and the good news is – you’re in control the whole time.
